IZIP E3 Dash Battery Upgrade 48V 17.5Ah

Do you want to double your range on your iZip E3 Dash, E3 Peak, or E3 Sumo e-bike? Previously, if you wanted an upgrade, we could only rebuild it to 48V 10.5Ah (improving it from 8.7Ah) due to the size of the case. Now, with some basic soldering, we've found we can offer one of our own 48V 17.5Ah Sea Lion batteries or Shark 2 Battery as a compatible replacement! This effectively doubles the capacity of the original.

E3 Dash Wiring

You just have to disconnect the original battery and the mounting bracket, exposing the wires leading down into the frame of the bike. Then splice the red and black wires together and connect it to our battery! There is no need to connect non-power wires to our battery. This has worked best for models with hub motors.

This kit could also fit on other bikes that utilize the Currie downtube battery pack, such as the Diamondback Trace EXC, Overdrive or other models.

While the middle two wires aren't connected, we've successfully installed new throttles with battery level indicators so you'll know how much power you have left. The indicator on the stock display and the estimated range won't function any more.

@Jason – The blue and the white wires in the picture are not connected, so your display will not show the battery charge remaining. You do not necessarily need a new throttle, but this one gives you an indicator for battery charge.

Can you please translate the above text? Which two wire are being spoken about? Is a new throttle necessary/needed?

@Andrew – The bike will run without the blue and white wires connected, but you’ll be missing information on the display.

I have a 2015 Diamondback Overdrive exc what are the blue and white wires for and do I need them to have this bike run again?

  • EBike Marketplace: April 15, 2020

@Skip – Yes, you can drop off your battery at our office.

Hello, I spoke with Shawn about upgrading my Currie 48 V-417WH battery for my 2016 IZip E3 Dash bike. I am going to be driving through Las Vegas in a couple weeks and wondering if I could drop off this battery. I understand it is no longer made so rebuilding it is my only choice? Thanks

@Tony – Yes, it will take some wiring work on your part, but any of our 48V batteries will power your bike.

Hi I have a Currie battery 48v 417 BL 17. And no longer holds a long charge so you are saying I can get a dolphin battery and just change the plug and I can use the dolphin battery ???

    Thanks. Tony

@Joe – That specific throttle required that we splice in to the wiring. It’s not plug and play.

  • Joe: June 20, 2019

The throttle with voltage indicator, what type is it? Does it replace the stock throttle, same plug on display?

  • EBike Marketplace: October 24, 2018

@Joe – Unfortunately the battery indicators will not work with our new battery.

  • Joe C: October 24, 2018

Will battery gage and range indicator work if I have two red and two black wires on Diamondback on the battery itself? how do I know how much time/range left with this battery then?

@Ron – We’ve really only had success with bikes that have two red and two black wires coming out of the frame. We’ve never had a Raleigh Cadent in store so we can’t guarantee anything.

  • Ron: October 22, 2018

Hi will this battery work with the Raleigh Cadent? Battery:417Wh DT Mounted Motor:TranzX M16 Center Mount 350W, Throttle Compatible
